Preah Sihanouk Province: Mr. Mang Sinet, Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, has called for the establishment of an eco-tourism zone on Koh Rong to enhance the region's appeal to tourists. His remarks came during a recent inspection of the waterfall eco-tourism zone in Koh Rong Sangkat, Koh Rong City, on December 26, 2024, where he engaged with officials, local authorities, and representatives from the private sector.

Highlighting Koh Rong's diverse tourism potential, Mr. Nuon Bunthol, Governor of Koh Rong City, emphasized the area's abundant natural resources, including waterfalls, white sandy beaches, clear blue seas, mangrove forests, eco-tourism sites, and vibrant coral reefs. These features make Koh Rong an attractive destination for both domestic and international visitors. An exciting new attraction, featuring forest trails and five waterfalls, is also being developed to enhance the tourist experience.

Governor Mang Sinet has led efforts to inspire local authorities and the private sector to foster a new tourism sector that encourages visitors to explore the lush landscapes, gorges, and resorts of Koh Rong. Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal, Minister of Land, Urban Planning, and Construction, is supporting the preparation of walking paths to facilitate tourist access to the waterfalls and scenic mountain views.

While the dry season presents challenges with reduced water flow, the rainy season attracts numerous foreign tourists eager to experience the forested areas. To ensure visitor safety, authorities are implementing enhanced security measures, including increased patrols.

Governor Sinet expressed optimism that adventure-seeking tourists will be drawn to this newly developed eco-tourism area, which marks a significant advancement for the tourism sector in Koh Rong. He urged local residents to engage in preserving the natural environment, emphasizing that a healthy ecosystem not only benefits tourism but also enhances the quality of life for the community. By acting as stewards of their environment, locals can contribute to raising awareness about Koh Rong as a must-visit destination, ultimately creating more job opportunities for residents and improving their livelihoods.
